#WanderlustWednesday Vol. 3

The weather has been super bizarre lately… like snowy and cold!  Shouldn’t it be rainy?  You know the whole April showers bring May flowers thing?

Last Saturday’s weather in Chicago really threw me for a loop.  Think blizzard like conditions for five to ten minutes, then sunny and bright for another ten minutes (like it never snowed), then repeat.

These conditions and temperatures have me thinking about this post.  I’m day dreaming of flowers and sunshine, the occasional rain shower, but not snow!  Since flowers are one of my all time favorite things, I wanted to dedicate a #WanderlustWednesday post to the Tulips fields of Holland.

There was actually a point in my life.. let’s call it my “too cool for life adolescent/college years” when I pretended to feel indifferent toward flowers.  I would make statements like “Why spend money on something that’s just going to die in a few days?” or “Why would you gift me something like that?”

The truth, I always loved flowers, I loved how beautiful they smelled and looked, how elegant they made a room feel and look.

Nothing will brighten my day more than a surprise flower delivery!

Have you heard of the Tulip fields in Holland?  The pictures are swoon worthy and makes me just want to fill my apartment with these blooms, from top to bottom!  The region of Holland where most of the tulip farms are located is called Noordoostpolder (Northeast polder), in the province of Flevoland.

I’ve read the best time to visit is during April and May (Can we pack our bags now!?).  Mid-April is probably the most ideal time, as it sports the most prolific blooms.  There is a park, Keukenhof, that plants over seven million flower bulbs a year. It’s like walking in a sea of flowers.  This park has a unique theme each year, that changes annually.

This is definitely being added to my bucket list.  Oh and Keukenhof is located not too far from Amsterdam, so you can go do your thing there ::wink wink:: (jay kay haha).  I will be lusting over this breathtakingly beautiful Dutch countryside, it’s colorful bulbs and stunning Dutch Windmills!

Here are some really great resources about the Tulip fields in Holland.  (here and here)

What’s your #WanderlustWednesday?

Love, Lephan
